Lima founded or the conquest of Peru
A new reading of colonial epic poetry is proposed by Pedro de Peralta Barnuevo with his book Lima fundada o conquista del Perú. The symbols in the poems of the Arauco, Armas Antárticas and in the sacred or hagiographic epic sacra of La Cristiada of Diego de Hojeda and the Life of Santa Rosa del Conde de la Granja, are redefined by Peralta with a very peculiar allegoric vision of conquest. It is necessary to emphasize the enormous importance of the Peralta’s annotations in order to fix an interpretation of its own verses, establishing at the same time an official version of the Creoles with respect to their own history.
