The text printed by Antonio Ricardo in Lima in 1602 corresponds to the Constituciones of the University of San Marcos under the license of the viceroy Don Luis de Velasco. This text brings together the constitutions and ordinances approved by the cloister of the then Royal University of Lima, consecrated to the evangelist San Marcos.

This house of studies had been reformed by the dispositions of Viceroy Francisco de Toledo several decades ago and recognized in the same certificate of his majesty addressed to the rector of the university: “por cuanto vos el Doctor Juan Velásquez, catedrático de Teología de la ciudad de los Reyes de las provincias del Pirú, en nombre della, me aveys hecho relación que don Francisco de Toledo mi virrey que fue de aquellas provincias, concedió al Rector de la dicha universidad jurisdicción sobre los doctores, mestros, oficiales y estudiantes, dentro de las escuelas della, en casos criminales con apelación a la misma Audiencia Real de la dicha ciudad”.

The text consists of thirteen titles, the oath of the rector, the oath of the councilors, the oath of the graduating doctors and students, and the oath of the officers of the same university.
