Alegato y decisión de examinar y aprobar los milagros del muy piadoso padre Francisco Solano, miembro de la orden franciscana seráfica

Authors: Francisco Carrasco del Saz

This Alegación, printed in Latin and Spanish, forms the original documentation of the process for the beatification of Francisco Solano. It was entrusted to Francisco Carrasco del Saz, a doctor in Canon Law who was also rector of the Royal University of Lima (now the National University of San Marcos). Their participation, through the professional writing of a plea, reveals the intentions of the Peruvian community to succeed in their attempt to canonize the seraphic father.
In 1591 he passed to the Indies and settled in the city of Lima. In the capital of the Peruvian viceroyalty, he entered the University of San Marcos, where he received his doctorate and held the positions of attorney and rector between 1613 and 1614. He was also a lawyer for the Royal Court of Lima – and owner of one of the most famous law firms in the city—, prosecutor of the Crusade Court, advisor to the secular council of the aforementioned city, advisor to the viceroys Count of Monterrey and Prince of Esquilache (1610) and judge of the Royal Court of Panama (1616-1625) .
Along with the performance of his positions in the res publica, he developed an interesting career as a theoretical jurist when commenting on the laws contained in the New Recopilation of Castilla; He also carried out several works inscribed within the genres – typical of the ius commune – of the treaty, of the Consilia and of the allegations in law.
