Charles du Fresne, Monsieur du Cange, was a French jurist who held important positions for the crown. Nevertheless, his academic prestige is due especially to his great contributions in the study of Byzantine history and in the development of classical philology. In this last field, Du Cange (as he is more commonly known) studied the historical development of Greek and Latin. Its Glossarium mediae et infimae Latinitatis is still the most consulted dictionary to access the lexicon of medieval Latin. It was published in Paris in 1678 in three volumes in folio.

Later in 1688, he published an appendix or annex to his immense work. This is the Glossarium ad scriptores mediae et infimae Graecitatis, printed in two volumes. Although their philological studies have been published many times throughout the centuries, they maintain their validity in the academy. In our collection we assemble an edition of the early eighteenth century and also share electronic resources to facilitate the consultation: a digital platform that allows the consultation of the Glossarium mediae et infimae Latinitatis and another one that allows to download the two volumes of the Glossarium ad scriptores mediae et Infimae Graecitatis
